LDE(X)

LDE(X) is one of the most developed LiteStep-based Windows interface replacements ever. It has been developed to suit the most demanding of workloads within the tightest of deadlines - every tool or application you need is always close at hand. For those needing the ultimate power, the environment is highly flexible and open to third party development in virtually every way.

Release 6.4 is the current stable release. Release 6.3 was moved to legacy status with the arrival of LDE(X)6.4.

Stable release (currently LDE(X)6.4) : Intended for new and current users alike. It has generally seen extensive testing and should have no unresolved or unknown issues. When a new stable release has been declared ready, the previous stable build is moved to legacy status (it becomes unsupported although remains available). Bug fixes are still developed for stable releases, but the feature set is fixed.

Unstable release (currently none) : Intended for users who don't mind (potentially show-stopping) bugs or broken features. The unstable builds are generally frequent in nature and can vary significantly in terms of features, reliability and internal implementation. Unstable builds do benefit from being open to feature changes and since they are actively developed, users can (in)directly contribute to the next stable build by investigating the unstable arm from time to time.

Legacy releases (currently LDE R4 to LDE(X)6.3) : These are available from the full archive on the sourceforge.net ldexforwindows project pages here. You can read about the entire release line here. These have not been updated since they were finalised. There will be no bug fixes or other updates for legacy releases.

Legacy fish : The fish backend engine for (de)activating preference settings written in native LiteStep code using mzScript and Textedit. This debuted in 2001 and has remained a key part of LDE to date, being largely responsible for the development of the powerful Core system now available in LDE(X)6.x. There will be no bug fixes or other updates for legacy releases. Only developers will find these downloads of interest - they are of no use to anyone else :)
