LDE(X)6.1 - 'The Box of Delights'
LDE(X)6.1 is a significant update to the 6.0 release. Partial migration of the internals to OS-native scripting (thanks to Amtal) is one of the key improvements, providing a standard language code framework for new developers to work on. Documentation has also been greatly improved with the provision of over 100 minutes of video tutorials and a single volume, 180 page PDF manual that provides end-user and developer information.
The user interface has also seen various improvements with the addition of a single panel mode (seen within the 6.05 developer previews), greatly improved desktop shortcut implementations and also the usual round of optimisations and improvements with regard to memory use and CPU load. The taskbar and panel launcher now each support their own autohide settings and the taskbar has also been further improved with system tray icon scrolling and the ability to reposition the system tray and clock. All subtle, but welcome changes to improve the working environment, including the ability of the trackerfloater to display statistics for dual CPU systems.

LDE(X)6.1.2 is in Q.A. You can find screenshots here and and more information here. ETA is not yet available. A roadmap for work towards LDE(X)6.2 is available for consideration by all active users and devs - feedback in the forums, please.

LDE(X)6.1.1 final is now available as an upgrade from build 3780 here (214 KB) [md5 : 32d5e2acaabb67b1b2d3de5b7a9ea1b9]. Significant changes to the mechanics of the plugin system in relation to the native LS fish system and also the VWM integration make this an interesting update. These changes were held back from the LDE(X)6.1 release due to their experimental nature and the desire to make LDE(X)6.1 100% stable. The main focus of these changes was to eliminate the remaining requirement for users to manually add code to some of the plugin system files when fish or VWM integration was needed - this is no longer the case (for updated plugins). A few small bugs were identified and nuked as well. The changelog is here.

LDE(X)6.1 final is now available as an upgrade from build 3770 here (255 KB) [md5 : d4aa834b752d9e3e587d9bffccfe9026] (don't forget to get the new manual from above) and as a full installer here (7.7 MB) [md5 : ea56d2d23f0de98759d92083da51649f]. Earlier full installers have been withdrawn to keep server load down, but as usual you will find them on sourceforge.net.
